Freestone County Commissioners appointed Will McSwane to serve the court as Commissioner of Pct. 2 during their April 6, 2022 meeting.

He will take the place of the late County Commissioner Craig Oakes, who passed away in March.

McSwane is the Republican candidate for that position in the General Election this November. He is running unopposed, as no Democratic candidate filed.

Commissioner Oakes had chosen not to run, and had planned to retire at the end of his term in December.

McSwane is a 1983 graduate of Teague High School and a 1987 Tarleton State University graduate with a Bachelors of Science in Ag-Business.

For the past 16 years, he has been an Independent Landman, contracting to Oil & Gas and Utility Companies, working mainly in Freestone, Limestone, Leon, Robertson and Madison Counties.

Prior to that, McSwane managed his family peach/vegetable farm and cattle operation for 14 years.

During his campaign, McSwane said he would keep a conservative approach in budgeting for Freestone County.
