AFTER A HARROWING ORDEAL, Butler and Oakwood Volunteer Firefighters were finally able to free a driver trapped under a toppled workover well rig.

The accident occurred Wednesday, April 11th on Highway 84 east of Fairfield, when the rig blew a tire and came crashing through the metal fence surrounding Pleasant Hills Children’s Home, sliding on its side until it came to rest near a creek on the property.

Approximately fourteen first responders worked tirelessly for over three and a half hours to extract the driver, first digging with shovels through several feet of dirt to reach him before extracting him from the wreckage.

Miraculously, the driver only sustained minor injuries according to those on scene. He was air lifted to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
