The Teague Lions opened a 21-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 54-0 win at Lion Stadium over the Buffalo Bison Friday night. The win concludes the non-district portion of the schedule and will be on the bye week for the opening week of district play.

The Lion defense took control of the game and never let up in the shutout win. They held the second consecutive opponent to zero points at home and have only allowed seven points in the last three weeks.

The offensive showed some consistency early to build a big lead. Midway through the first quarter, quarterback Zak Leija broke away on a run that covered 68 yards inside the Buffalo five-yard line. Kemauri Evans took the handoff and scored the first points of the game on a three-yard run with 3:58 remaining in the first. Leija passed to J’Kybryen Harris for the conversion and the Teague Lions took an 8-0 lead.

The Buffalo offense could not muster anything early and set the Lions up for their second score in good field position. With ten minutes to go in the first half, Leija dumped a pass off to Harris and he raced the remaining 35 yards for the touchdown. The conversion was no good and the Lions led 14-0.

The Bison turned the ball over on downs when a pass fell incomplete. The Lions quickly turned the drive into points. Leija passed to Rowdy Phillips down to the one-yard line. Jaden Cole finished the drive with a one yard run and Alex Lopez added the point after for the 21-0 lead that would carry to the halftime break.

Tylin Randle took the second half kickoff and returned it into Buffalo territory. His return set the Lions at the Buffalo 31-yard line. They would need only one play to add to the lead. Ny’land Coaster raced through the Bison defense for the touchdown and the 27-0 lead after the failed point after.

Teague would score a pair of touchdowns in a quick manner to end the third quarter. Coaster scored on a 28-yard run and the Lions special teams recovered the fumble on the kickoff at the Buffalo 26. Harris took care of the rest with the 26-yard run to extend the lead to 41-0 heading into the fourth quarter.

Evans scored a couple of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to close out the 54-0 win.

Teague is open next week as the remaining six teams begin district play.
