Dear Editor,
This is the copy of the letter I sent to Governor Abbott in regards to the bars in the State of Texas being closed once again.
Dear Governor Abbott!
I would like to extend my deepest disappointment and frustration with Governor Abbott’s mandate to close all Bars at noon June 26th!
We are businesses that provide a livelihood not only for owners and their families, but also for our employees and their families.
We are one of the most regulated businesses in the state, and are once again treated like the redheaded stepchild with no regard to our employee’s livelihood or ours.
As we did in March, we now have thousands of dollars of inventory with a short shelf life that we will have to dump out.
Again.
Invested money and labor to accommodate the new ever-changing rules we jumped through all the hoops and played by all the rules, yet here we are singled out.
AGAIN!
This time as the cause of the Spike in Corona infections, We are the scapegoat!
Throughout this ordeal, we have had the most stringent rules of any business in the state AND the harshest penalties.
Other business owners were applauded for defying closures so they could provide for their families.
We would have lost not only our license but also received a financially crippling fine.
It seems that Restaurants were given a weekend before they have to reduce capacity.
I am sure that was done partly due to the considerations of their already ordered inventory.
Just want to point out that 51% license holders are legal taxpaying businesses providing the state with both Sales Tax Revenue and Mixed Beverage Tax!
Are there any plans for financial assistance for the families that again are being forced into financial ruin?
We are already living on maxed out credit cards from the first mandatory closure. All our bills and operating cost are still due, yet the state forcefully remove our ability to make an honest living.
It is like a never-ending nightmare!
We at Rockin Kountry Club, as is true with other businesses across the region and state put all our life savings into opening our dream business.
It is a tough pill to swallow when it seems as every other business gets to provide for their families, yet we are again forced to not provide for ours!
Is there any sort of exceptions to this for outdoor venues?
Any financial bailout plan to help the bars this time?
Since we have again been hog tied and forced to close, do we get a refund or credit on our license?
Bottom line…does the Governor and the task force even give a damn about bars and live music venues?
Do y’all care about the families devastated by economic hardship due to closing us down again?
It sure doesn’t seem like it!
Thank you,
Cindy Thompson
