Members and friends of the Let’s Travel Club enjoyed a day trip to the Dallas Arboretum on Tuesday, May 4. This trip was the first day trip for the group in over a year. Fortunately, the weather was just about perfect for the tour of the gardens—not too hot, not too cold with no rain.

The February storm took its toll on the azaleas, but there were still many beautiful and colorful areas to enjoy. The staff members at the Arboretum work endlessly to maintain the gardens. We found the volunteers and docents to be knowledgeable and helpful. The Arboretum was a good choice to welcome our group back to traveling.

The Dining Terrace was a comfortable location for lunch as everyone enjoyed their selections. The area offered views of gardens and the Simmons Lagoon.

After enjoying the beauty of the gardens, the group made a stop in Corsicana on the way home. The Russell Stover Chocolates retail store was a fun place to gather a bag of delicious chocolates to take home.

Those travelers who participated in the trip were: Ruth Pickens, Jackie Pickens, Sandy Robinson from Dew; Charlene Ezell, Loy Newberry, Alicia Smith, Eddie and Karen Smith, Sue Terry, Mary White from Fairfield; Debra Franklin, Mary Belle Leach, Donna Mitchell, Martha Stone from Groesbeck; Glenda Stone from Kosse; Dawn Price from Mexia; Denise Pike from Palestine; Joycelyn Calame from Wortham; Mary Jo Isenburg, Diane Jones, Betsy Metcalf, Judy Wardle from Streetman; Lynda Mitchell from Tehuacana; Diana Bradley, Pat Farrell, Ida McBride from Waco.

The Let’s Travel Club has several tours scheduled with Collette for 2021 and 2022. The 2021 tours include a tour of Colorado and a tour of Scotland. The 2022 tours include two events that happen every ten years. Since tours and events were cancelled in 2020, these two were postponed until 2022—the Floriade which includes Chelsea Garden show in London and gardens in Amsterdam, and then there is the Switzerland, Austria, Bavaria tour that ends in Oberammergau to attend the Passion Play.
