Wortham Volleyball Practices Good Defense

Wortham beat Mart in three games to take the lead in district after the first round: 25-14, 25-18, and 25-18.

District record 8-0

Kayla Lansford led with 15 kills, 10 blocks and 8 digs.

Setter Jayde Hamilton had 16 assists, 8 kills, 6 digs, 2 aces and one block.

Rylee Goolsby had 12 kills and 5 blocks.

Libero Hallie Fautt had 15 digs and one kill.

Megan Whaley helped in defense with 12 digs.

Samanatha Wright had 5 kills, 1 dig, 1 block and 1 assist.

Darcy Taylor had 8 assists, one ace and one dig.

Skylar Phillips had 6 assists and 3 kills.

Stepping up from JV to replace Ashley Mao was Jessica Black. Jessica came up from JV and did an outstanding job. Jessica had 3 kills and 2 blocks.


 

Lady Bulldogs Take Win Against Hubbard

Wortham beat Hubbard in three games: 25-18, 25-15, and 25-20.

Kayla Lansford led with 18 kills, 2 aces, 1 dig and 3 blocks.

Ashley Mao had 12 kills, 1 assist, 3 aces, 2 digs and one block.

Rylee Goolsby had 6 kills, one dig and 4 blocks.

Setter Jayde Hamilton had 2 kills, 2 aces, 6 digs and 19 assist.

Libero Hallie Fautt had 4 kills, 2 aces and 7 digs.

Setter Darcy Taylor had 5 assist, 2 digs and 1 ace.

Skylar Phillips had 1 kill, 3 assist and 2 blocks.

Megan Whaley had 4 digs.

Samantha Wright had 1 dig.

Wortham started strong and shut Hubbard’s powerful offense down with tough blocks and a solid defense.

“I’m so proud of how my girls came together and played as a team, says Coach DeAnna Whaley. “We moved together and kept fighting. We focused on Hubbard’s serve receive and their defense on Monday and my girls really came through.”
