Johnnie Faye Pye, 87, of Fairfield, Texas, went to her heavenly home on Friday, May 6, 2022. She went peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Johnnie was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, church and community. She was born on March 30, 1935, to Preston Jefferson York and Addie Jewell Anderson York in Jester, Texas in Navarro County. She was saved in 1956 at Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield, Texas.

Johnnie is survived by her husband, John R. Pye of Fairfield; her daughter Teresa Black and husband Steve and her daughter Brenda Shaw all of Fairfield. She is also survived by her sister Ella Mae Robinson of Corsicana and many nieces. She was Nannie Pye to her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren including grandchildren Brandon Black and wife Amber, Jason Barger, Haylie Riggs, Brittnee Cathey and husband Bobby and Ashlie Black. Great-Grandchildren Westyn Barger, Blaine and Addie Black, Brooklyn Riggs, Jayden and Conner Fuchs and Maze, Jett, and Rowdy Cathey. She was preceded in death by her parents Preston and Addie York, her sister Lavern Dudley and her brother Douglas York.

Johnnie Faye’s husband Rossie was stationed in Michigan for a while when he was serving in the Korean War. They loved to talk about their many adventures there before they came back to Fairfield and made it their home. Johnnie worked as librarian at Fairfield Junior High School. She was loved by her co-workers, and she touched the lives of so many students. She retired from Fairfield ISD after 35 years of service.

She loved life and always had a positive attitude. She loved to read her Bible, especially the Book of Ruth. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalms 23. Johnnie taught Sunday School for many years and sang in the choir. She also took care of the church library. She was known for her amazing cooking and sewing skills. She was always willing to help anyone in need.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 11, 2022, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Fairfield. Funeral Service will be 10:00am Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Terry Skinner officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery.
