John Dean McLeod, 85, of Fairfield, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019 at a local nursing facility.

Graveside services were held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2019 at Woodland Cemetery near Kirvin with Bro. Terry Skinner officiating.

Mr. McLeod was born April 21, 1934 in the Cedar community in Freestone County to parents William and Lena Lampier McLeod.

He married Hilda Turner on June 5, 1953.

In 1971 he opened Motor Sales Co. a longtime automotive repair business and retired in 1999.

At age 50 Mr. McLeod began roping in the rodeo. He raised cattle and loved quail hunting and trained his own hunting dogs.

He loved the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers but was especially fond of playing dominoes and “42”.

He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Hilda; two sons, John David McLeod, born April 25, 1956 and his wife Loretta; Jerry Don McLeod, born December 4, 1963 and his wife Kristi; he was known as Kaw-Kaw by four grandchildren, Jonathan McLeod; Jeremy McLeod and wife Chelsea; Julie Lame and husband Austin; Jaymi Craig and husband Marshall and ten great-grandchildren. His also survived by a brother-in-law, Byron Turner along with numerous nieces and nephews.
