When you have been friends with people for 20-something plus years, you tend to lower your guard, not be so uptight, and just roll with the punches. Mainly because these people have known you for too long, and there is no way you can get away with putting on heirs in front of them.

Not too many weekends ago, my college friends and I had our annual reunion, that we do every summer. This mainly started because one of my sorority sisters and her family has always lived abroad since we graduated. Right now they are living in Uganda; so as you can see it is not exactly a convenient trip to “jump the pond” and go visit. But they always come in during the summer for a long stay, and we manage to carve out one weekend from the summer to hang out together.

Typically, it is with kids, and not just adults because we love to watch our kids play and hang out together; and watch them grow up together. This year I hosted the gathering, and it was the largest it has ever been. Normally it is four or five girls and their kiddos; but this year we extended it to our guy college buddies and their kiddos.

So you know that old saying…” Three’s a crowd”? Well they are right, but twenty-seven is insane. And that is exactly how many people we had in my house for an entire weekend. Ten adults and seventeen children. It was so crazy, but so much fun at the same time. There were shoes, socks, swimsuits, hair bands, wet towels, everything was everywhere. So this was the one weekend that I couldn’t worry about keeping the house tidy, it was a weekend to sit back, relax and enjoy my friends.

It was also a weekend that our boat battery died, so of course we had to be towed in my another boat. And yet again, it wasn’t a time for me to stress or worry, or be concerned with what anyone thought. It’s watercraft…and watercraft are nothing but bottomless money pits. So again, my friends have known me for way too long, to know that I would get upset about something like that, so in normal fashion, I kicked back, relaxed, opened an adult beverage and enjoyed the tow home. After all, what’s a girl to do? NOTHING.

These friends know me too well, and there is no judgement passed that possibly my equipment doesn’t work, or that the fun was just taken from the weekend; but truth be told the fun of the weekend is all of us sitting around, laughing, talking about the good times, the present times, and what our futures may hold. Friends that have been around for what seems an eternity are the best; but never underestimate the new friends that have come into your life, because one day you will wake up and those too, will be your forever friends and will know you inside and out.
