Weather permitting, the IH 45 southbound entrance ramp located just south of FM 27 in Fairfield will permanently close on Tuesday, July 7, as construction continues on the IH 45 Frontage Road project. The closure is needed to allow construction of a new southbound exit ramp to US 84.

Once the ramp closes, drivers wanting to travel south on IH 45 will need to use the entrance ramp located south of Church Street. Message boards have been placed in advance of the closure to help guide motorists to the new entrance location.

TxDOT also reminds drivers that the intersection of the IH 45 southbound frontage road and US 84 is currently operating as a three-way stop. Motorists should use caution, obey all traffic control signs, and watch for cross traffic when traveling through the area.

This work is part of the ongoing IH 45 Frontage Road project in Freestone County. The $36.9 million project was contracted to A.L. Helmcamp, Inc., and is expected to be completed in spring 2027.
