Essential oils are used to enhance one’s mood, treat ailments, and prevent others.  They can be used in your home, in your water, on your body, or in your garden.  There are a few that should always be in your home.   These are your emergency essential oil kit!  This week I will discuss the first five and next week the last five.
Lavender
Lavender alleviates skin rashes, acne, insect bites, and minor burns.  It’s an effective disinfectant for cuts and scrapes.  Put a few drops of in a bath to get a good night’s sleep.  Rub on your temples and forehead to relieve headaches and alleviate sinus issues and respiratory infections when added to a steam inhalation.
Tea Tree
This is one of the most beneficial and useful essential oils to have on hand.  It’s often been called “a medicine cabinet in a bottle,” as it can be used to treat most common ailments. Although you’d never consume tea tree oil, you can use it topically to treat athlete’s foot, dermatitis/eczema, acne, cold sores, nail fungus, warts, and insect bites. You can alleviate dandruff, psoriasis, and head by adding drops into your shampoo.
Lemon
This is one of the best essential oils for home use, as it has more applications than most other oils will ever dream of. A few drops of lemon added to olive oil makes furniture polish.  Lemon oil has therapeutic uses to relieve bad breath, alleviate dandruff, alleviate anxiety, and can be used as a hand sanitizer.
Peppermint
Peppermint tea relieves an upset stomach.  Massage your abdomen with oil to relieve stomach cramps and queasiness.  Peppermint draws out ticks from your pets. Blended with pine, eucalyptus and olive oil, peppermint can help the chest and throat to calm coughing fits and help relieve bronchial congestion.
Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus is great for alleviating chest congestion and a salve made with it can ease asthma attacks in the throat and chest.  It ceases the pain of fibromyalgia if rubbed into the affected area.  A few drops added to a compress on skin with shingles will ease pain and speed up healing.
