A local hero was recognized during the City of Teague’s June Alderman meeting on Monday, June 15, 2020.
Samuel ‘Sammy’ Ielati was given honors at the beginning of the meeting for the bravery and quick thinking for saving the life of his two-year old brother, Paxton.
The Aldermen voted to allow the City Administrator Theresa Bell and City of Works Director Jacob Cowling to seek sealed proposals for a new fuel and credit card machine for Teague Municipal Court.
Bell explained to the Aldermen that, “We used to be known as the cheapest fuel in the area, people used to go out of their way to get fuel here.”
They opted to rescind a resolution that offered a hiring incentive for the Teague Police Department.
A lengthy and thoughtful discussion concerning an upcoming placement of Zelda, Teague Police Department’s K-9, began later in the meeting.
Different Police Departments in the area have been contacted to determine interest, including, Groesbeck PD and Mexia PD.
Zelda will require retraining, and her new handler would need to be certified.
By law, the city and Chief of Police DeWayne Philpott are required to look for a local agency, before being allowed to transfer the K-9 elsewhere
The vote was approved and it allows Chief Philpott to donate K-9 Zelda to the best available home found.
