Nearly three months after an officer involved shooting in downtown Fairfield that resulted in the death of the suspect, Texas Rangers presented their findings to Freestone County Grand Jury on Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019, Fairfield Police Officer Albert Gallegos, Jr. encountered a domestic situation on U.S. Highway 84 near the courthouse square.

During the altercation, a Hispanic male was threatening to harm a female; and Officer Gallegos was forced to discharge his Taser, and then use deadly force.

The male suspect was declared deceased at the scene.

Following a lengthy investigation, Texas Rangers went before Grand Jury to submit the results.

Grand Jury members declined to indict Officer Gallegos, finding that he followed protocol, saving the lives of the victims at risk during the situation.

Officer Gallegos, who was put on paid leave during the investigation, returned to his duties on the Fairfield Police Department in mid April.
