The new “Paint the Pews” project is a collaboration between fine art students at Fairfield High School and the Freestone County Historical Museum.
The students, under the direction of Art Teacher, Susan Walsh, will be restoring pews, donated to the museum by the Post Oak Church. The pews will be painted with historic images from Freestone County, such as the Val Verde canon, as done with the first pew.
The project is being underwritten with funds from the Operation Round-Up Program of the Navarro County Electric Cooperative of Corsicana, Texas.
“We are very excited to involve these students in this partnership,” says Museum Curator Patty Pratt. “Hopefully, we can inspire our youth to appreciate the diverse history of Freestone County.
Their first installation current sits on the covered porch of the Barbara and H. Neil Bass Wing on the museum grounds.
Visit the Freestone County Historical Museum from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The museum is located at 302 E. Main Street in Fairfield, Texas.
