We are proud to announce the promotion of Shawna Poole as the new captain for the Nacogdoches District.
A native of Central Heights outside Nacogdoches, Captain Poole is excited to get back to her East Texas roots and to reconnect with the culture and communities there, while serving the game wardens in the Nacogdoches district.
Captain Poole says her interest in a law enforcement career began at a young age with her involvement in the Nacogdoches Police Explorers and has been an avid lover of hunting, fishing and the outdoors.
After graduating from Stephen F. Austin University with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and a master’s degree in educational leadership, Captain Poole began her career as a middle school educator.
Ten years later, her combination of experiences and passion for conservation led her to become a Texas Game Warden. She graduated from the 59th Texas Game Warden Academy in 2015.
Captain Poole was stationed in Webb County upon graduation. After serving in South Texas for a year, she took the opportunity to get closer to home and transferred to Freestone County where she has been ever since.
Throughout her career, Captain Poole has sought opportunities to further the mission of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department by serving as a member of the Boat Accident Reconstruction Team, the public information officer for her district, a TCOLE written communication instructor at the Texas Game Warden Training Center, is a simunitions instructor and role player and has served as the Region 3 representative for the Texas Game Warden Association and Texas Peace Officer Association.
She was recognized in 2022 as the Hunter Education Game Warden of the Year and in 2016 she received the Director’s Citation Award.
