For the last several years the Freestone Quilt Guild has supported Lisa Underhill’s The Train of Hope Elderly Ministries by making a charity quilt for raffle.

The guild provides the fabric, piecing and quilting to make the quilt and proceeds from the raffle go to support the ministry.

This year, 24 Guild members are participating in a fun Signature Quilt project where the participating members make black and white quilt blocks and sing them for exchange.

At the end of the year, each of the 24 members will have 24 signed blocks to make a quilt.

The Guild decided to expand this project and make extra black and white blocks to construct this year’s charity quilt.

Member Carolyn Hughes pieced the extra black and white blocks with some beautiful turquoise background fabric to make the charity quilt, then Hazel Sanders quilted it on her long arm machine.

The quilt will be raffled in November.

The Freestone Quilt Guild is a supportive community of quilters of skill levels who are passionate about the art of quilting, learning new techniques, teaching and encouraging others.

In addition to creating a yearly charity quilt, the Guild supports the community by awarding the Newberry-Satterwhite Memorial Scholarship to a local high school senior every other year.

The Guild also hosts outside speakers and workshops, and works on a variety of different projects using quilting techniques taught by individual Guild members throughout each year.

Most members elect to arrive several hours before the monthly business meeting to sew together, enjoy fellowship, share tips and see the various beautiful quilt projects created by the members.

Over the last few years, the Freestone Quilt Guild has grown an estimated 30%, and now includes members from Freestone, Limestone, Leon, Brazos, Falls, Tarrant, Anderson and Wichita counties.

The Guild welcome visitors and would love to have more new members join!

The Freestone Quilt Guild meets the first Monday of each month at 1:00 pm in the First Methodist Church Fellowship Hall at 201 North Mount St. Fairfield, Texas.
