Child Abuse Prevention Month was officially declared on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 by Freestone County Judge Lloyd L. Lane during a proclamation ceremony at the courthouse.

Immediately following, county officials and members of the Child Welfare Board placed blue pinwheels on the courthouse lawn in front of the banner, encouraging everyone to do their part to “Stop Child Abuse.”

The community is invited to come out on Friday, April 10th to enjoy a hotdog fundraising lunch, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Grilling chefs this year will be County Judge Lane, along with County Sheriff Jeremy Shipley.

Proceeds will benefit the Child Welfare Board and their recently opened Rainbow Room.

The Rainbow Room is a 24/7 emergency resource center that allow caseworkers to quickly access necessities for children of ANY age entering foster or kinship care.

These rooms are stocked with clothes, shoes, diapers, formula, school supplies, and more.

Members of the Child Welfare Board act as volunteers to raise awareness, support CPS caseworkers, and fund necessities for children that are no covered by state funds.
