by Sheriff Jeremy Shipley

On Friday, 9/24/2021, at approximately 1:20pm, FCSO Dispatch was contacted by Anderson Co SO in reference to a 911 call they received regarding a road rage incident where a firearm was pointed at another subject on HWY 79, East of Oakwood.

ACSO Deputies and Palestine PD officers located the involved parties in Palestine and confirmed the incident occurred in Freestone County.
FCSO Deputy Weinmann responded to the location and conducted an on-scene investigation. It was determined that a road rage incident did in fact occur between two vehicles, during which a firearm was pointed at the victim.

Dash mounted camera recording from the victim’s vehicle and a voluntary confession by the suspect were obtained.

The suspect was placed under arrest for Deadly Conduct and was transported back to FCSO Jail.

Not sure where he was in such a hurry to be going that he was pulling guns out to get there, but we know where his journey ended and he’s going to have a little time to think about his actions.

Two of our supervisors in the detention facility withstood Hurricane Nicholas in Galveston and acquired training and information to bring back to our county from the Texas Jail Association “Jail Management Issues Conference.”

We’re proud to have Jail Administrator/Lt. Wimberly and Jail Sgt. Nelms leading and supervising our jail facility and detention officers.

The jail is usually the most problematic issue for every county Sheriff’s Office in the country, but it’s a necessary evil and we appreciate their dedication to our office, as we do all our quiet heroes who work behind the walls.

At this time, FREESTONE COUNTY IS UNDER A BURN BAN. No outdoor burning is allowed.
