A few reports of clown sightings in the county, most turn out to be hoaxes or have some other explanation. As of this writing, Freestone County Sheriff’s Office has received no intelligence from any State or Federal agency indicating that there is some sort of organized threat involving the wearing of clown costumes. What this means is that any of these reports or possible sightings may simply be individual acts of mischief. If you encounter someone wearing a clown costume at a time or place that is inappropriate for it, please contact the law enforcement agency that has jurisdiction in that area, we certainly want to ascertain what that individual is up to. Most of the reports from across the country have turned out to be hoaxes, and this phenomenon has turned viral and taken on the status of urban legend. Those of you old enough may recall this very same phenomenon occurred during the 1980’s.
