Candidate filing period ended with four contested races in Freestone County for the upcoming City Council and School Board elections. They include the City of Teague, the City of Wortham, Fairfield ISD, and Wortham ISD.
Elections for City of Fairfield and Teague ISD will be canceled, as each position up for election is unopposed.
Elections will be held May 6, 2023 with Early Voting beginning April 24th.
Final List of Candidates
The following candidates have filed their intention to run in the upcoming city and school elections.
City of Fairfield: Incumbent Bobby Nichols has filed for Place 3, Robert Keeton for Place 4. and incumbent Angela Oglesbee for Place 5. According to City Secretary Misty Richardson, election will be cancelled during this week’s Council meeting set for Tuesday, February 28th
City of Teague: Filing their candidacy for City of Teague election include Jerry Ballew and Sara Trevino for Alderman Place II; Jamie West and Bridgett Gauntt for Alderman Place IV; and Timothy Campbell and Asa Scott Adami for Alderman Place V.
City of Wortham: Filing for City of Wortham Mayor is incumbent Pellie Goolsby; filing for 2 at-large council positions will be incumbents Cliff NeSmith and Scott Batts, along with candidates Patrick Evans and Cal Johnson (write-in).
Fairfield ISD: Vying for 2 at-large trustee positions with Fairfield ISD will be incumbents Kevin Benedict and John Fryer, along with candidates Toni Abram and Cleo McElroy.
Teague ISD: Incumbent Lovie Whyte has filed for Place 1 – Trustee and incumbent Debra Lawrence has filed for Place 3 – Trustee. Expect this election to be canceled this week during the TISD Board meeting.
Wortham ISD: Incumbent Michael Dunn has filed for Place 5 – Trustee; candidates Jennifer R. Evans and Brett Duke filed for Place 6; and incumbent Jeff Jones has filed for Place 7 with Wortham ISD. Ballot drawing was held Monday to determine the order of names for Place 6.
