Jersey number 84 will be retired from Teague Lions Football in honor of Sergeant Major James Gregory Ryan Sartor.

  Friday, September 6th, 2019 will be the ceremony to retire Sergeant Major James Gregory Ryan Sartor’s football jersey from Teague High School.  The ceremony will take place out on the football field at 1:45 p.m. during the pep rally.

  A memorial service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7th in the Teague High School auditorium.

  Sartor was a standout football player for Teague High School, graduating in 1997. 

  Sgt. Maj. Sartor was killed in action during service to the United States July 13, 2019 in Faryab Province, Afghanistan.  He was a husband, father, Green Beret and a career soldier.

  He was Sergeant Major of A Co, 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) out of Fort Carson, Colorado.

  Sartor’s awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal, Presidential Unit Citation Award, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Valorous Unit Award with two oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Unit Citation with one oak leaf cluster and National Defense Service Medal, among others. He has been posthumously awarded the Purple Heart medal and Bronze Star medal. 

  Sartor also had earned the Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, where he earned the title of Honor Grad, Combat Infantryman Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Special Operations Diver Badge and Dive Supervisor Badge.
