Floris Leldon “Sonny” Schick, 84, beloved father, grandfather, and husband, passed away August 23, 2019, in Fairfield. A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 25, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church, Fairfield. Reverend Richard Heyduck officiated, and Nikki and Marinell Hollingsworth shared a special music selection. A special ceremony was provided by the Masonic Lodge #103.
Sonny was born December 4, 1934, in Fairfield, Texas, to Floris and Josephine Newell Schick. After graduation from Fairfield High School, Sonny enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in 1954. He retired from the U. S. Air Force in 1974 with the rank of Master Sergeant. Sonny graduated from Yuba College, Yuba City California in 1976.
Sonny returned to Fairfield, Texas in 1981. He worked for ten years as a dispatcher for Chemical Express and ten years with the Texas Department of Corrections. Sonny loved to remain active and worked part-time for many businesses in Fairfield in his later years.
Sonny was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he ushered for many years and was president of the United Methodist Men for twelve years. He was a past Master of the Fairfield Masonic Lodge #103.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Floris Schick in 1949 and his mother Josephine Newell Schick in 1968.
Sonny married the late Margaret Martha Dietzel in 1959. He is survived by their two sons Steven Schick and wife Tina, and Scott Schick and wife Heather.
Sonny is survived by his wife Judith Bournias Schick whom he married in 1986. He is survived by one stepson, James “Bud” Kitchens and wife Carolyn, three stepdaughters, Kim Mooneyham and husband Mike, Nikki Hollingsworth and husband Brian, and Samantha Parrot.
He is survived by fourteen grandchildren, U.S. Navy Chief Ryan Schick, Mark Schick, Juli Schick, Sierra Schick, Scott “Slick” Schick, Jr., Jeff Kitchens, John Kitchens, Michael Mooneyham, Nick Mooneyham, Matt Mooneyham, Maci Hollingsworth, Tate Hollingsworth, Jorja Johnson, and Claire Ferguson. He is survived by five great-grandchildren, Beckham Schick, Camilla, Saul, and Cora Beth Kitchens and Preston Kitchens.
He is survived by his two brothers Billie Schick and wife Carolyn and Joe Schick, a brother in-law Sam B. Bournias and wife Billie. He is also survived by his niece and numerous nephews as well as a very special cousin, Kelly Jo Bentley.
Honorary pall bearers were Maurice Burleson, Andy Bonner, Bobby Daniel, Leslie Tate, Warren Awalt.
