The City of Fairfield will be seeking funding for “Project City Hall” as per a motion made during the recent City Council meeting held Tuesday, January 8, 2018.
According to new City Administrator, Nate Smith, a Bond Advisor Meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 22nd to discuss the possibility of obtaining a bond for purchasing and modifying the current Navarro College Campus located at the corner of East Commerce (Highway 84) and Post Oak Road.
If purchased, the City of Fairfield will have a new City Hall and Police Department headquarters, a long over-due necessity.
The current City Hall, located at 222 South Mount Street, has had flooding issues, causing substantial damage to areas of the building, as well as to equipment, and even to items in the evidence room of the Police Department.
Interim Chief of Police David Utsey provided photos of damage throughout the department-side of the building and explained that there have been several patches and temporary fixes made to the building in effort to stop further damage, but to no avail.
In the meantime, Council agreed to have a professional come look at the problem to see if there is anything that can be done to stop further damage.
