Early voting begins on Monday, October 22, 2018 for the General Election, continuing through November 2, 2018.

Local candidates on the ballot include:
–Justice of the Peace (Pct. 1, Pct. 2, Pct. 3 & Pct. 4)
–County Commissioners (Pct. 2 & Pct. 4)
–County Treasurer
–County Clerk
–District Clerk
–County Judge
–87th District Judge

The only locally contested race is that of JP – Pct. 2 between incumbent Debra L. Hamilton (R) and Pamela Whitt (D).

Freestone County voters will also be voting on several State and National races, including:
–State Representative – District 8: between Cody Harris (R) and Wesley D. Ratcliff (D)
–State Senator – District 5: between incumbent Charles Schwertner (R), Meg Walsh (D), and Amy Lyons (L)
–Governor: between incumbent Greg Abbott (R), Lupe Valdez (D), and Mark Jay Tippette (L)
–U.S. States Representative – District 17: between incumbent Bill Flores (R), Rick Kennedy (D), and Peter Churchman (L)
–U.S. States Senator: between incumbent Ted Cruz (R), Beto O’Rourke (D), Neal M. Dikeman (L)

Also on the ballot this year is a Special Election for the purpose of

“Changing Freestone County from Tier 1 county status to Tier 2 county status for purposes of municipal annexation as described by Chapter 43 of the Texas Local Government Code.”

Voting “For” this Proposition would require cities to get approval from impacted residents before they could annex property.

Voting “Against” the Proposition keeps the current annexation process in place.

–Fairfield Conference Center: Mon. – Fri. | 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. from October 22 thru November 2; and on 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Sat., October 27
–Butler Community Center: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Wed., October 24
–Dew School: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Wed., October 24
–Southern Oaks Fire Department: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Sat., October 27
–Teague City Hall: Mon. – Fri. | 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. from October 29 thru November 2
–Wortham Community Center: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Sat., October 27

For those wanting to cast a ballot by mail, applications must be received by Friday, October 26, 2018.
