The Fairfield Eagles clinched a playoff spot, but lost two of the three games over the week. Fairfield moves into the final game of the season and a win secures the third place spot for District 20-3A.

Monday night was the make-up game from the weather cancellation in Mexia to take on the district leading Blackcats. Blackcat guard Landon Anderson hit three from long distance and scored 13 of his game high 32 in the first period. Jy’ren Canady hit a pair of short jumpers but the Blackcats jumped out to a 25-10 lead at the end of the first.

Mexia followed the first period with a 27-point explosion in the second period and coasted to a 52-19 halftime lead and never looked back. The final score was 75-52. Canady scored 13 points and Pierre Algood added 14 in the game.

On Tuesday, the Eagles travelled to Palestine to take on the Westwood Panthers. The Panthers are out of the playoff chase but played spoiler and pulled the 57-54 upset at home.

Westwood grabbed a 7-1 lead and held it through the majority of the first half. Canady scored on a drive to the goal and cut the lead to 9-6 and would trail by two at the end of the first period. The Panthers went on a 4-0 run to open the second period and the lead grew to as much as eight points in the early moments. Canady and Algood scored to close the gap and Canady hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 24-24. George Zimmerman added two free throws and the Eagles took their first lead of the game.

Jacorey Daniels hit a three pointer with less than a minute left in the first half and the Eagles had their largest lead of the game at 29-26. Westwood went on a 5-0 to end the half with a 31-29 lead. The Panthers would not trail the remainder of the game.

Fairfield did cut the lead to one on a couple of occasions on Canady scores but they could never regain the lead in the 57-54 loss. Canady scored 21 points and Algood added 16 points and hit seven of his eight free throws. Jacorey Daniels got into double digits with 12 points.

The Eagles returned to the Johnson Activity Center to conclude a busy week and the opponent was the Teague Lions. Teague is also out of the playoff race and their opportunity to play spoiler was decided quickly. Fairfield led 30-13 at the half on good shooting Camren Daniels both from inside and outside. Teague would get no closer for the remainder of the game and the Eagles claimed a 58-37 win. Algood scored 16 points and Bean added ten points and hit two of three from behind the arch.

Jaiden Cole and Jehmel Rice led Teague with ten points each.

The Fairfield Eagles can claim third place with a win on Tuesday when they travel to Buffalo to battle the Bison.
