Dear Editor,

For month now we have seen clip about this man named Putin and what he and the Russian government officials are doing to protect themselves from a so-called western influence from area of the Ukraine. Surely we must have someone in Washington who is old enough to remember WWII and how we and our allies, including the USSR, licked Hitler and the ambitious German government who were attempting to rule all Europe and then some. It should be reminded to a careless public (including Mr. Putin) of the decision of Adolf Hitler, on his way to conquer Europe, to swing by and take Russia as well. It was to be easy pickings so-to-speak. Just sweep in over the rurals and take Stalingrad and then move on. It all sounded so easy. Then, the Russian people rose up and they began to fight back when President Kruschev told them they were about to lose their country.

That is almost what happened. But, the American leadership behind President Roosevelt, passed the Lend-Lease the Act in 1941. We began supply Great Britain and the Soviet Union and other allies with food, oil and materials that included ship, planes and other weaponry to assist them in fighting the massive German war machine. We shipped 11.3 billion dollars of war and related materials to the Soviet Union and, even 1.6 billion of the same to China. This overly generous effort on our part went a long way to saving the USSR (Russia) for it enabled them to stop Hitler. This program went on all thru the war to September of 1945.

Years-many years later-hold on to your hats folks, the United States settled the massive debt to us from Russia (USSR) for 5 cents on Dollar. Now if that’s not an example of western friendship, I don’t know the meaning of the word.

If you decide to print this, please sent a copy to our standing Senator and State Representative and it wouldn’t hurt to send one to President Putin as well. He needs a little history lesson I think. I would love to give it to him myself over a shot of good Russian vodka. Who know, maybe we could prevent a war-just by talking.
