It’s a shame El Sellers’ latest Letter (“One Last Attempt at Illumination”, April 20) is his last attempt, because he leaves so many questions unanswered.

Are all who are “woke” also “ultra-left radicals”? Or is one a subset of the other? What about “Progressives”? Are they all “woke”, too? Are all who are “woke” black folks, who should only be grateful that they have “risen so far” and “achieved so much” in America, and should

otherwise keep their mouths shut? Does “woke” take in all Liberals and Democrats, along with anyone Mr. Sellers happens to disagree with politically? Is Liz Cheney “woke”?

When considering “oppressors” and the “oppressed”, should we consider all the ways Ex-President Trump has claimed to be “so unfairly treated”? When we hear Trump complain about “Fake News”, should we consider that Fox News has now admitted and paid almost a billion dollars because their news is fake?

Can we know which ultra-left radicals are “preaching” Critical Race Theory? Where is this happening? Can their preaching then be attributed to all the “woke”, and perhaps all the “progressives”? Is it just one giant all-inclusive generalization that can then be characterized as “very young, gullible, and slow witted”?

Sellers asserts, “woke is popularly understood as radically leftist, contrary to our historical American values, unfair in its treatment of dissent, and inherently un-American.” Can we know where we can go to find this “popular” definition? Or should we just take Sellers’ word for it?

What does a “woke” person preach about work; do woke people have jobs? About Honor? Do woke folks have as much honor as Speaker McCarthy, who first condemned Jan 6 insurrectionists, then did a 180 and embraced Trump and his claims about a stolen election? About Patriotism? Are woke folks less patriotic than a Trump supporter beating a Capitol Cop with a Trump flag? About Family? Do woke folks have less family values that a man who would have sex with a porn star while his wife was pregnant, then lie about it and pay out a six-figure hush payment? About Individual Responsibility? About Duty? About Self Reliance? Sellers doesn’t tell us. He just asserts that the “woke”…who he cannot or will not name…are simply devoid of any “American values.” He doesn’t even offer us a political alternative.

So many unanswered questions, and alas, we won’t be getting any answers from El Sellers. He’s made his last attempt at illumination. His particular light of “illumination” has burnt out, apparently.
