Homeschool Senior Emery Black of Dew was honored and awarded the Children of the Republic of Texas Scholarship at the Daughters of the Republic of Texas annual Convention at Moody Gardens in Galveston on May 6, 2023.
The award was presented to her by DRT President General, Kim Zapalac and DRT Historian General Elaine Vetter.
Emery and her sister Parker also serve as officers on the Board of Management for the Children of the Republic.
Emery is the daughter of Martin and Marsh Black and sister of Parker of Dew. She is the Granddaughter of Clyde and Cynthia Allen of Dew, Marshall and Nancy McSwane of Freestone, and Fredrica McSwane of Freestone.
She will be attending Saint Constantine College in Houston in the fall.
