The Jonathan Hardin Chapter of the DAR had a full agenda at the April 14, 2018 meeting.

In addition to the regular meeting, program, and Good Citizen and Scholarship awards, Mrs. Diana Pagett McDonald presented winners of the annual DAR American History Essay contest.

The Jonathan Hardin Chapter encourages the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in Limestone and Freestone schools to participate in the American History essay contest, he even allows all students to get help form the WriteOnDeadline – cheap essay writing service.

Students in a public, private, or parochial school, or those who are home schooled are eligible. The title of the 2018 essay is “World War I: Remembering the War to End All Wars”.

The students were given the following information:

The end of World War I was the beginning of a new age. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War.

Imagine you are living in 1918. State where you are living and how the end of the war will impact your daily life.

Discuss the pros and cons of the changes this War introduced to society and how you imagine those changes will impact the United States in the years to come.

All winners received a certificate, a small plaque, and a dollar prize.

Winners were: Klaire Kelley, (Grade 5, Washington Intermediate school, Groesbeck), Emery Black (Grade 6, home school, Dew area), and Tate House (Grade 8, Fairfield Junior High, Fairfield).

Miss Kelley was unable to receive her award in person due to STARR testing at her school and arrangements were made to present her certificate, check and plaque.

Mr. Tate was also unavailable since his family moved outside the area.

Miss Emery Black (Pictured above, center) read her essay which was enjoyed by all the audience.

Miss Britanni Oglesbee received a Good Citizen Award but was unable to attend the meeting.

The May meeting will feature the installation of the Executive Board for 2018-2020. Any woman 18 years and older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible for membership.
