Earlier this summer, a new market research report was published that is sure to be of interest to the building and construction industry, in particular the $13 billion roofing industry. Titled “U.S. Roofing Products Market – 2009,” this report “provides the action-oriented executive with up-to-date information on asphalt roofing shingles, other asphalt products and coating materials, metal roofing and roof drainage equipment, single-ply plastic and rubber membrane roofing, and pre-cast concrete and clay roofing tiles.” All of this is according to the research firm that compiled the research report’s data, Catalina Research. A reputable roofing professional can help decide whether to repair or replace. Fiberglass shingles, concrete and clay tile, metal roofing and various flat roof systems are the most common residential systems available in the Miami Roofing Marketing Pros: commercial roof leads in Florida. When contemplating your replacement options it can be helpful to check the websites of roofing companies, manufacturers and roof related search engines. When deciding on a roof tile selection a drive through almost any Miami neighborhood provides a convenient, giant sample of a myriad of variations. Running 211 pages, the publication is chock full of major findings about the roofing product industry, roofing industry and market trends, roofing product shipments, roofing contractor business trends, and residential roofing improvement market and factors driving demand. With recession-crunched homeowners turning to repair and upkeep work in an effort to save money, all of this spells good news for family-owned roofing contractors who can provide all of these high quality roofing service options at affordable price points. Indeed, family owned and operated roofing contractors across the country are growing in leaps and bounds despite the volatile economy. Whether you’re looking for a residential roofing contractor for a simple repair or you want to replace or update an existing roof, finding the company with the right experience is usually not that difficult. Here are a few things to remember so you can ensure that you’re getting the right residential roofing contractor for the job. We all know that Southern California can occasionally have some damaging weather that can cause serious problems for homeowners- take for example, all the problems that Santa Ana Winds can cause. Simple wind damage is only the beginning, add to that the risk of wildfires and it is no wonder that many homeowners are starting to talk to residential roofing contractors about their potential risk of serious property loss. A residential roofing contractor has quite a bit of knowledge about what homeowners can do to protect their home’s from the elements as well as how to make their roofs more fire resistant. I remember back in October, 2008 when some friends of mine had to be evacuated from the San Fernando Valley Wildfire. They came and stayed with us, praying that their home wouldn’t be lost. After it was over, we went back to help them assess the damage. As we got closer, I started to think that there was no chance their home was still there, but it was. Unfortunately, none of their neighbor’s homes had made it through the blaze. Theirs was one of only a dozen homes in the sub-division that had a metal roof; when first restoring their home, the metal roof was their least favorite feature– but after that day they were glad that the residential roofing contractor that had replaced their old shake roof had not given them the option. So here are some things to look for in a residential roofing contractor: All contractors, including a residential roofers, are required to be licensed and insured by the State of California. If you happen to find one that won’t give evidence to prove they are, send them down the road. Also, a residential roofing contractor will usually give homeowners an estimate and go through all of the options available. If you come across any that show up and try to push you into a contract right away, they probably don’t have your best interests in mind. When you do decide that it’s time to replace your roof, get at least three estimates and make sure that each roofing contractor gives you at least three references with their estimate. Take some time and investigate each one of them; check other jobs they have done. When you’ve picked the one that you think will do the best job for you, then it’s time to sit down with them and sign a contract. By providing high quality residential and new construction roofing with a small but fully dedicated team of professionals, such roofing contractors enjoy unmatched buying power that allows their roofing pricing to be extremely competitive-just what cash-strapped homeowners want to hear in the midst of an ongoing recession. Family owned roofing contractors also provide an unparalleled level of service to their clients. From commencement right down to the last detail of clean-up, their services strive to be first class and impeccable with the goal of fulfilling a commitment of complete customer satisfaction 100% of the time. In its own industry report IbisWorld, the provider of the largest collection of Industry Reports in the U.S., points out that the roofing contractor industry “is characterized by a high degree of competitiveness.” In 2008, its team of experts estimated that there were 120,000 roofing enterprises with a revenue growth of -9.1%. By providing timely service and workmanship to homeowners and demanding builders, a small niche of roofing contractors have managed to outperform this decline and actually thrive. In fact, a select few have managed to leverage their professionalism, work ethic, consummate attention to service and family values-even in an overly saturated residential roofing market-and catapult themselves to success. Most people take their roof for granted until their home’s interior sustains damage from leaks. By then the roof deck and structure are typically rotted as it takes time for a leak to saturate the layers of sheathing and insulation before it’s noticed inside the home. Efficient roof maintenance extends its life, gives the homeowner full value and protects other components of the structure. Miami roofers and homeowners face unique maintenance challenges associated with South Florida’s sub-tropical climate. Hurricanes, a long rainy season and the sun’s intense UV radiation take a toll on Miami roofing systems. Different systems require their own periodic maintenance regimens and require an expert local roofing contractor to properly perform the work. Most leaks occur at detail areas due to poor workmanship and can be repaired. When the material itself fails the roof is usually beyond practical repair and replacement options should be explored. Today Miami residents are more aware of the benefits of energy efficient assemblies which cut cooling costs and extend the life of the roof while featuring ventilated, insulated and reflective characteristics. Rising oil prices have also made efficient systems such as metal roofing and liquid applied roofing more competitively priced with conventional roofs made largely from petroleum byproducts. Warranties offered by manufacturers only cover the materials applied to your roof. Manufacturers’ warranties are sales tools, like car battery or tire warranties, they are exaggerated to boost sales. Lifetime shingles that usually last 25-30 years are a great example. They want you to file a claim. Then they pro-rate in their favor towards a new roof – with their shingles! Manufacturers’ warranties are necessary in the extremely rare case of defective materials. The important warranty for residents is from their contractor. One should always get three or four estimates before hiring a roofer. Search online for contractor complaints and reviews and verify licenses at miami-dade.gov and myfloridalicense.com. Obtain and verify liability and workers comp insurance certificates. Study each proposal for accuracy of the work description. Prices for an insulated flat roof over the Florida Room, so common in the area, can vary considerably when different systems are used. Compare the warranties of each contractor along with price and terms. A down payment shouldn’t be more than a third of the contract price. Insist the contractor pulls a permit and don’t ever make final payment until the roof passes inspection.

Be relax when choosing ladder guards for OSHA compliance which gives your worker better safety in site. OSHA Subpart M lays out the requirements and criteria for fall protection in construction workplaces. Subpart M institutes the six-foot rule, which states that fall protection is required for construction workers working at a height of six feet or greater above a lower level. Specifically, construction sites, shipping and receiving areas and shipyards are the most prominent workplaces that will require protection. In fact, fall protection continues to be the top category of cited violations that OSHA encounters each year. Safe up-to-code fall protection systems, including roof safety rails, continues to be important.  While being on the rooftop has the highest percentage of fall related deaths, ladders have the second highest as a percentage of overall deaths.  Addressing roof access safety is paramount when looking at your overall fall protection plan. Our Ladder Guard Guardrail System makes transitioning from ships or access ladders as simple and safe as possible.  We use our ladder spanners to connect directly from our Ladder Guard Guardrail to the existing boarding rails or stringers of the access ladder.  These ladder spanners are standard as a hot-dipped galvanized option or powder coated safety yellow and are adjustable for simple installation.  Once exiting the access or ships ladder, our guardrail system will lead you up to 15′ away from the leading edge.  Push the standard self-closing safety gate to enter the rooftop, and all employees and contractors will be a safe distance from the leading edge. Our Ladder Guard Guardrail System is a completely non-penetrating OSHA compliant guardrail system that incorporates into all of our other mobile safety rail systems.  Whenever modifications or adjustments need to take place on your rooftop, the Ladder Guard can be removed until the work is completed, and then placed back on the rooftop.
