Calvary Baptist to Ordain Newly Selected Deacons

An ordination service for newly selected deacons is scheduled this coming Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield.

Last fall, members of the congregation made nominations for adding up to five additional members to their deacon body. Numerous training sessions were conducted by both local church officials as well as other invited guests. A training session was also held with the wives of the existing and newly selected deacons.

Ordination symbolizes God’s call to ministry, the candidate’s commitment of himself to the ministry in the will of God, and the church’s approval of the candidate for the ministry.

Once an individual has been ordained, he should continue to live an exemplary Christian life and show himself to be a maturing leader in the service of Christ.  He is responsible primarily to Jesus Christ as Lord and secondarily to the church in functioning as a leader and his behavior should reflect his sense of responsibility.

Calvary’s membership recommended the addition of five new members to their existing board. Those selected were Jerry Sheppard, Danny Joe Wren, Wesley Kenney, Michael Wren and Daniel Phillips.

“We are excited to invite one and all to our deacon ordination services,” Calvary’s pastor Terry Skinner stated. “We are blessed to have these find men accepting the call to serve in this new capacity.”

Ordination services will begin Sunday afternoon, April 2nd at 2:30 pm. A reception will be held immediately following in the church’s Life Center. Calvary is located at 220 East Main in Fairfield.
