December starts off in a big way, with several Christmas events scheduled during the first week in Freestone County, Texas.

Fairfield Old Time Christmas
Saturday, Dec. 2nd

The City of Fairfield will host their annual Old Time Christmas Celebration on the courthouse square on Saturday, December 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m

The event includes a parade, visits with Santa, arts & crafts, Nativity, petting zoo, and Christmas tree lighting.

It all happens on the courthouse square in downtown Fairfield, Texas. Children are invited to gather for the Reading of the Christmas Story of 3:00 p.m. as parade entries line up at the Elementary school.

Santa Claus, this year’s Grand Marshall, will lead the Christmas parade around the square at 4:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “A Minion Christmas.”

To enter this year’s parade, contact the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce at 903-389-5792.
Santa will be around to visit with the children from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The Fairfield Junior High Choir will perform and 5:00 p.m., followed by the Nativity Drama at 5:30 p.m. by members of River of Life Family Worship.

The official tree lighting at 6:15 p.m. will mark the official beginning of Christmas in Fairfield, Texas with lots more holiday events in December.

Christmas in the Park – Teague
Saturday, Dec. 2nd

The Christmas In The Park committee, along with several elves in the community, have been working hard to get everything ready. This year, thirty-two trees will be lit for the occasion.

Lights will turn on beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 2nd. There will be hot chocolate & cookies for the kids and Christmas ornaments will be available to paint.
Santa Claus will arrive at 6:30 p.m. and stay for visits with the children until 9:00 p.m. He will be joined by a special guest, The Grinch.

Other activities include signing by the Sound Church Kids Choir and voting for the Best Tree. Applications will be available for Toys For Tots.

Nativity and Petting Zoo
Saturday, Dec. 2nd

The Nativity Drama will be performed by members of River of Life Family Worship on Sunday, December 3rd beginning at 6:30 p.m. A petting zoo will also be available for the children.

Teague Christmas Parade
Thursday, Dec. 7th

The annual Teague Christmas Parade will take over Main Street on Thursday, December 7th beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Other activities include free pictures with Santa Claus at the Teague Community Center (before and after the parade) and a Hamburger Fundraiser, hosted by the First United Methodist Church.

Hamburgers, including chips and dessert, will be sold for $6 a plate. Proceeds benefit Christmas Kids.

For those wishing to enter a float for the parade, registration forms may be turned in at

Teague City Hall. There is no cost to participate.

Be sure to include lights, and more lights (must have Christmas lights).

Parade line-up will be on North 10th Avenue at 5:30 p.m.

Christmas in the Park – Fairfield Lake
Saturday, Dec. 9th

Fairfield Lake State Park will open their gates for their annual Christmas in the Park on Saturday, December 9, 2017.

Free admission during the event is offered. The campground Tour of Lights will be on display from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Refreshments will be served, along with Christmas music, a warm country campfire, and a hayride to view campsites decorated with Christmas lights.

Santa Claus will be in attendance from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. for visits and pictures.

Be a part of this year’s event. Campsites are FREE for one week to all those who decorate.

Decorations must cover three-fourths of campsite, and must be approved by Park staff.

Set up for campsites will begin Monday, December 4th. You have the option to stay at your campsite for the duration of the Christmas In The Park event.

Participants must bring three dozen cookies to be shared on the night of the event.
