Sharon and David Fox

Capps Memorial Chapel is Fairfield Chamber of Commerce’s November Business of the Month.

Owned by Joseph McKibbin, the Fairfield business is managed by David Fox and wife, Sharon.

The funeral home opened under current ownership and management on September 9, 2009.

Mr. Fox became interested in this line of work at a very young age following a conversation with his mother about the local undertaker.

In 1970 Schooler-Gordon Funeral Home was built within short walking distance of Fox’s home in Amarillo.

At the age of 16, Fox got a job there as the ‘night boy’ answering phones after hours for the business; and so began his journey in this line of work.

After high school, Fox attended Junior College before joining the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman for four years. He then returned to Texas to attend Mortuary School in Dallas.

Fox holds both a Funeral Director’s and an Embalmer’s license.

Together with his wife, whom he married in 1981, Fox owned and operated Smith-Fox Funeral Home in Panhandle, Texas from 1982-1988.

Through the years since then, the couple has worked in Marlin, Waco and surrounding communities, managing a total of seven Funeral Homes, before landing here in Fairfield.

Fox is a Master Mason and Past Master of Fairfield Lodge #103, a member of Karem Shrine Temple in Waco, Johnson-Wiggins Post #22 American Legion in Corsicana, and the Fairfield Rotary Club.

He is also an amateur trombonist and has played the trombone in various Shrine, Christian and Dance Bands. He also feels it an honor to play “Taps” on military services when requested.

Capps has served 48 families so far this year. They offers full-service funerary needs and can arrange anything a family might need, including shipping and receiving of bodies over-seas and across the Mexican border, cremation services, military services, and At Need/Pre Need services for Veterans.

In addition to David and Sharon Fox, working to serve families in their time of need is Funeral Assistant W.A. Davis and retired Funeral Assistant Gilbert Gatlin.
