Freestone County School District and City Council Elections will be held May 6, 2023 and the time to get your name on the ballot is now.

The filing period for both entities is January 18th through February 17th, 2023.

Positions Up for Election

City Councilmen/Aldermen:

–Fairfield – Place 3 (Bobby Nichols), Place 4 (Stephen Daniel), and Place 5 (Angela Oglesbee).

–Teague – Place II (Rhonda Jones), Place IV (Chris Nickleberry / Jamie Cotton West – appointed) and Place V (Ryan Mathison).

–Wortham – Mayor (Pellie Goolsby), 2 Council Members at Large (Scott Batts and Cliff NeSmith)

–Streetman – NO positions up for election this term.

School Districts (Board of Trustees)

–Fairfield – 2 Places At Large (Kevin Benedict and John Fryer)

–Teague – 2 Places At Large (Lovie Whyte and Debra Lawrence)

–Wortham – Place 5 (Michael Dunn), Place 6 (Russell Black) and Place 7 (Jeff Jones)

–Dew – Dew ISD holds elections in November

Requirements

Those desiring to run for City Council or School Board must meet certain requirements, including the following:

–U.S. Citizen

–Qualified Voter

–Reside continuously in State of Texas 12 months, and in the territory 6 months

–18 years of age

–no felony conviction

–has not been by court to be totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote

–satisfies any other eligibility requirements prescribed by law for the office
