Dear Editor,

Last week, Councilmember #2, Councilmember #3, and Councilmember #5 voted to cut funding, sever ties, not support, detach, disconnect, separate, divide, and part ways with the City of Fairfield’s Visitor’s Center located at the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce. The Visitor’s Center was very important to this community, as it promoted everything that is Fairfield. It promoted the Fairfield Lake State Park, The Freestone County Historical Museum, Moody Bradley House, and Freestone County Courthouse.

Currently, there is over $550,000 in the Hotel/Motel tax fund. The Hotel/Motel tax fund is collected by the City of Fairfield. This money is to be used for promoting the hotels and local businesses through tourism. This promotion was accomplished through the Visitor’s Center. What do Councilmember #2, Councilmember #3, and Councilmember #5 plan on doing with this money, since they cut the only entity trying to promote the hotels and tourism? Do they have a plan? Inquiring minds want to know.

Does the City of Fairfield have a Code of Conduct or a Code of Ethics for its Council Members, as it pertains to professionalism, harassment, intimidation, or discrimination? Having a code of conduct for elected and appointed officials would build public confidence. We should hold our elected officials in high regard. We should hold our City Council Members responsible for their actions. We, the taxpayers of this community deserve it.

Thank You,
