The Cayuga Wildcats scored forty points in the first three quarters and they handed the Wortham Bulldogs a 40-7 home opening loss.
Wortham could not get much going against a much bigger offensive unit with the Wildcats.  The dominating running game prove to be too much for the Bulldogs to close the gap.
The Bulldog defense did get a takeaway on the third play of the game.  Quarterback Tristan Davis turned into Jayce Black and the ball popped loose.  Hunter Turner pounced on the ball and the Bulldogs took over at the Cayuga 15-yard line.  Wortham converted a fourth down when quarterback Zach Jones ran for nine yards to the Wildcat two-yard line.  Stephon Ester put the finishing touches on the drive with a one-yard push and Francisco Garcia gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead.
Cayuga matched that score on the first play of the second quarter.  On the ninth play of the drive, Colton Bock scored on a two-yard quarterback keeper and Brendan Harcrow added the point after to tie the score at 7-7.
The Wildcats finished another long drive near the end of the first half.  On the 13th play of this drive, Tristan Davis ran around the end for the three-yard score and the 21-7 halftime lead.
The first thirty seconds of the second half proved to be the difference in whether the Bulldogs were going to going to get into the game or not.  On second and three from the Bulldog 32, Jones’s pass was picked off by Davis and he took it the other way for the 30-yard interception return.  The point after failed and the score was 27-7.
On the next kickoff, the ball came down and bounced off the thigh pad of VonTray Cooper.  Davis was in perfect position to take the ball on a bounce and race down the far sideline for the 31-yard fumble return and an eventual 34-7 lead.
Cayuga register their final touchdown on the night with a Ryder Sparkman one yard run and the final score of 40-7.
Wortham evens its season record at 1-1.  They will return to the road for the next two weeks.  The Bulldogs will travel to Travis to take on the Rosebud-Lott Cougars.  Wortham has not played this team since they were the Lott Cougars back in the 1930s.  Game time is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
