The Community Care Club, a charitable group based on the south side of RC Lake, is at it again. They’re putting on an event to raise funds for their worthy causes. This time it’s a BBQ & Jamboree and the funds they raise will go to scholarships for high school seniors and young men and women already in college.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 26, beginning at 5:30 pm and will be held at the Southern Oaks Volunteer Fire Station, located on Southern Oaks Drive, just off FM 416 (near the Shell station).

The menu consists of pulled-pork or sausage, potato salad, cold slaw, cobbler and a soft drink, all for a price of $12 for adults or $6 for kids.

“Music, good eats and a chance to strut your stuff on the dance floor are offered during this community-wide event that is open to anyone who loves a good meal and a chance to meet others and help support a good cause,” said Mary Schutz, one of the publicists for the BBQ & Jamboree.

A big part of the evening is the awarding of raffle prizes, which includes such gifts as a 50-inch television, a kayak, a barbecue grill and a gift of Patron tequila-related goodies. But if you’re not lucky enough to have purchased a winning ticket for one of these prizes, you’ll have a chance to take home a valuable door prize.

The 2017 CCC scholarships went to two seniors—Spencer Fair, who will attend Tyler Junior College and Brandon Basho, who will be studying at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville—and two students who are furthering their education at area colleges—Matthew McCully at the University of Texas at Tyler and Rowan Prihoda at Texas A&M.
Entertainers for the evening are Bella Voce, comprised of Joanna Fritz, Janet Martin and Cathy Kjellson, presenting their “Rockin’ Sixties” program; Rayburn & Angela, a duo that performs country and light rock selections; and Tex & Mary Schutz, country musicians and singers who will entertain with traditional country tunes and a bit of foolishness.

“Our part of the entertainment will be a fun time for folks to step back to their teen years as they listen to the music of the girl bands of the 1960s,” said Fritz of Bella Voce. “We hope you’ll not only listen to our lively selections, but also sing along.”
