Amalie Kucherka Phillips will be our guest speaker. She is a 2003 graduate of Texas A&M University with Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry (Cum Laude). While at A&M she was involved in Project Sunshine and the 12th Man Student Foundation, serving as President her senior year. She was also inducted in the Alpha Zeta and Phi Eta Sigma honor societies. Amalie also graduated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in 2011 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Summa Cum Laude).

Amalie met her husband, Ryan Phillips ’03, during their sophomore year, and in May they will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary.

While Amalie has worked in a research lab at Baylor College of Medicine and as a Labor & Delivery nurse, her greatest joy/job has been being a mom to twins, Luke & Kate (17). While Amalie and family have moved multiple times for Ryan’s job, she has taken every opportunity to get involved in the kids’ activities/organizations. She has coached volleyball, served on PTAs and booster clubs, volunteered countless hours from working book fairs in elementary school to helping ensure the high school musical goes on without a hitch.

Amalie is a member of the PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Sisterhood which supports women through scholarships, grants, & loans to pursue their educational goals. She currently serves as her chapter’s Ways & Means committee co-chair, organizing chapter fundraising to contribute to International, State & Local projects that are distributed annually.

The Muster Tradition:

Aggies gathered together on June 26, 1883, to live over again their college days, the victories and defeats won and lost upon the drill field and in the classroom. By April 21, 1903, this annual gathering evolved into a celebration of Texas Independence on San Jacinto Day. These early meetings included field games and banquet for Aggies to reflect and celebrate their memories of Aggieland. “Let every alumni answer the roll call,” wrote the Former Students. It was not until 1922, however, that April 21 became the official day of events for all Aggies; thus, the annual tradition of Muster was born. The March 1923 Teas Aggie urged, “If there is an A&M man in one hundred miles of you, you are expected to get together, eat a little, and live over the days you spent at the A&M College of Texas.”
