Jerry Lynn Maggard, 83, passed away on July 1, 2026, in Teague, Texas.

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Teague.

Bro. Scott Matthews officiated. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery in Teague, Texas.

Visitation was held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home.

Jerry was born on February 28, 1943, in Teague, Texas. His parents were Johnnie and Pansy Armstrong Maggard.

He attended school in Teague and was a member of the Teague High School Class of 1963.

On September 16, 1966, Jerry married Helen Anne (Cissy) Campbell in Teague, Texas. They had two sons, Guy Burton and Russell Lynn.

Jerry was a lifelong cattleman, skilled horseman and a devoted family man. He maintained a cow-calf operation in Freestone County, but horses were his real passion. He was a skilled horse trainer and loved to ride.

Jerry loved his family and was very proud of all their accomplishments. He is affectionately known as Papa by all his grandkids. He was always present for their events, cheering them on.

He didn’t leave Freestone County often, but he did love vacationing in Branson, Missouri with his family. He and Cissy attended the National Rodeo Finals for numerous years, along with many other rodeos and ropings.

Jerry loved his community of Teague. He was a volunteer fireman for many years, serving one term as Chief. He was an active member of the Teague Rodeo Association for over 60 years, where he served as President for many years. He was also a rodeo contestant. In Teague, he was the Wild Cow Milking and Ribbon Roping Champion several times.

By his family, Jerry will be remembered for his Sunday dinners and holiday meals. He was an excellent cook and loved feeding his family. Dinner was always at 12:00 sharp!

He was also a bit of a prankster. He carried a little black book in his pocket so that he always had the phone number of friends and family with him.

In the community, he was known for his Halloween popcorn balls. He had many adult trick-or-treaters!

In the 1990’s – early 2000’s, he hosted a fish fry every year for his friends, especially those in the ranching business, as a Thank-You to them for their help and support.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Pansy Maggard, his brother, Bobby Maggard, and his daughter-in-law, Dana Tate Maggard.

Jerry is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Cissy Maggard, his two children, Guy and Russell, his seven grandchildren, and his four great grandchildren. Guy and wife Tiffany reside in Teague and have two sons, Jordan and Jacob. Jordan is married to Kelsie Lummus Maggard, and they have two daughters, Hadleigh and Haislynn, and one son, Jayce. Jacob is married to Mallorie Sims Maggard and they have one son, Carter. Russell resides in Fairfield and has five children, Barrett Maggard, Blake Maggard, Hensley Repak and boyfriend Cabot Ellis, Nicholas Repak and wife Gianna, and Jacob Repak.

Jerry is also survived by his sister, Judy Maggard Selz and husband Jack of Cypress; his brother William Maggard and wife Donna of Teague, his sister-in-law Anita Maggard of College Station, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Sonny and Diane Campbell of Teague and sister-in-law Ruby Campbell of Teague; and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Teague.
