The Fairfield Lady Eagles athletic program has established high standards over the years and, as the school year winds down, Fairfield girls track is on the move again. They will compete this week at Waco Midway in the Region III track meet.
The Lady Eagles will send all three relays to the regional meet after finishing first in two of the three in the area meet held last week in McGregor. The sprint relay team of Maddoz Mitcheal, Blayke Brackens, Avery Thaler and NaKayla Connor put some distance between them and the rest with a winning time of 48.81.
Franklin and Academy earned the other two regional qualifier spots, separated by 0.01 seconds (50.64 and 50.65).
The ladies 4 x 200 relay was another convincing win for Fairfield. The same four runners as the sprint relay won the event in 1:43.87, almost three full seconds ahead of Lorena and district rival Westwood.
Three of the four ladies returned for the final event of the evening. Mitcheal, Brackens, and Thaler, joined by Lillian McBean competed in the mile relay and would finish second, running a 4:10.05. Lexington won the event with a time of 4:04.31.
Avery Thaler also competed in field events. She finished third in the long jump with a qualifying leap of 17’5”, less than two inches away from the second place jump of Emma Porter of Lorena. Yierra Flemings of Cameron Yoe won the event. Thaler returned to compete in the triple jump and finished second behind Flemings again.
There are other athletes heading to the regional track meet. Mexia’s Caden Grayson finished third in the shot put. Draylon Lee finished second in the triple jump and Teague’s Jehmel Rice finished third. Kyran Bedford won the 110 meter hurdles, edging Keith Wolridge of Lexington, by 0.03 seconds. Triniti Reagor of Mexia finished second in the girls 200 meter dash and Lee finished second in the boys event with Rice finishing third.
The Teague boys sprint relay of Jy’Kybryan Harris, Jehmel Rice, Bryce Bates, and Kamauri Evans finished third behind Franklin and Academy. Draylon Lee, Brice Moore, Keison Huckaby, and Jacques Cooper finished second in the 4 x 200 meter relay, just ahead of the Teague runners.
