The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 1191 held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, 8 Aug 2023 at the Sirloin Stockade in Corsicana.
The guest speaker was Jessica Krusen, Volunteer Coordinator for Meals on Wheels of North Central Texas (MOWNCT). She was accompanied by Haley Seale, Communications Marketing Manager.
The organization works to end hunger and isolation by delivering meals and services to residents, primarily 60+ years of age, primarily homebound or have little or no help, or have physical or mental impairments which make meal preparation difficult. Short term services are available for those recovering from serious illness or injury. Other services include wellness checks, caregiver support, friendly visitors, Animeals, nutrition education, care packages and holiday gift bags. Area of opeation is in Johnson, Ellis, Navarro, Somervell, or Hood counties.
MOWNCT was established in 1976 and began serving senior adults in Johnson County. In 2001 the program expanded to include Ellis County, then in 2020 further expansion included Navarro County, followed by expansion into Somervell and Hood counties in 2022.
While state and federal funding supports the program in part, the majority of funding and support is from local sources and much needed. Volunteers and cash support is welcome. Mailing address is MOWNCT, 203 Kimberly Dr., Cleburne, TX 76031-8714; www.mownct.org; 888-869-6325
