Last week, Wortham ISD parents were informed by Superintendent Melissa Bosley that a weapon was discovered in a vehicle at the high school.
According to the letter to parents, the drug dog alerted on a vehicle the afternoon of April 24, 2023. Upon searching the vehicle, administration found a weapon, which was immediately confiscated.
Law enforcement was immediately notified to assist with the situation.
“While the investigation is ongoing, we have no reason to believe that the weapon has been on any campus or district facility, and there was no threat made toward students or staff,” said Superintendent Bosley. “However, state and federal laws prohibit weapons on school property, and we take this offense seriously.”
Bosley further stated that safety for students and staff is their top priority.
“We have processes in place to help us keep drugs and weapons out of the school environment, and we are committed to improving and adhering to those protocols,” she said.
Superintendent Bosley asked parents to help the school in talking with students about keeping our school district and community free of weapons and drugs.
