Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced new appointments to the Sunset Advisory Commission today including Sen. Charles Schwertner, R-Georgetown, as chair, Sen. Angela Paxton, R-McKinney, Sen. Brian Birdwell, R-Granbury and Sen. Drew Springer, R-Muenster. Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr., D-Brownsville, will continue to serve in his term that expires in 2023. Jim Lee, of Houston, is the new public member appointee:
“The Sunset Advisory Commission’s job is to make sure that Texas state government remains as lean, effective and efficient as possible. I have complete confidence in these appointees, and I know they will ensure that our state agencies employ conservative principles in both planning and execution, but most importantly, they remain accountable to the people of Texas.”
Lee, Lt. Gov. Patrick’s public member appointee, is the Managing Member of JHL Capital Holdings. He is a former Commissioner of Texas Parks and Wildlife and the former Chairman of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. He also previously served on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
The Sunset Advisory Commission conducts regular reviews of state agencies that are scheduled to be abolished by the Texas Sunset Act. Their duties include convening public hearings on each agency and issuing a report with findings and recommendations to the legislature.
