A project that has been in the works for at least three or four years may finally get off the ground, as Fairfield City Council approved a Resolution to issue certificates of obligation to finance water and wastewater system improvements to benefit the TDCJ Boyd Prison Unit.
This is a substantial project that includes drilling a new well in the city and running a 12-inch water line to the prison unit, West of the city limits.
The total improvement project is estimated at $4.6 Million. It is important to note, according to City Administrator Nate Smith, that this project will be completed at no cost to the taxpayers.
“TDCH is going to be paying for these upgrades,” said Smith. “That’s part of the Memorandum of Understanding,” which was approved during the April 27, 2021 Council meeting.
Other projects coming up for the City in the next few weeks, according to City Administrator Smith, is asbestos abatement and subsequent demolition of the old City Hall building on Mount Street.
