COVID-19 vaccines are being shipped, albeit slowly, across the State of Texas, and even a few managed to make it to Freestone County.
According to the Texas Department of State Health (DSHS) Services interactive map, located online at t.ly/MDBU, 500 doses have been allocated and/or delivered to Freestone County.
These doses are not for the general public though. They go to health care workers and frontline workers first, and after that they go to the elderly and medically at risk.
These doses have already been earmarked for use and none are currently shown as available here in Freestone County.
The online map does show possible locations where vaccinations might be found for people in the high risk groups.
High risk groups are: Front Line Health Care Workers, Long-term Care Residents, People over 65, and People over 16 with one or more of the following health conditions:
–Cancer
–Chronic kidney disease
–COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
–Heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease or cardiomyopathies
–Solid organ transplantation
–Obesity and severe obesity (body mass index of 30 kg/m2 or higher)
–Pregnancy
–Sickle cell disease
–Type 2 diabetes mellitus
DSHS is saying, “Spring 2021 is the best estimate of when vaccine will be available for the general public, but that may change. It depends on vaccine production and how quickly other vaccines become available.”
Also, through the remainder of 2021 there should be no charge, whether with insurance or not, for the COVID-19 vaccine.
