I guess I am going to have to watch what I write about in my articles! Last week I wrote about a snake in the shrubs. This week’s article is about two snakes waiting at the door for us! After this, no more articles about snakes!! I had gotten out of my truck and was walking to the Sun Porch door when I stopped dead in my tracks…there in front of the door was a rather large Copperhead. Well, I did the one thing that I thought best for me to do…I walked backwards very quickly!
The Colonel was standing looking at my truck and I said there is a BIG G-G-G Copperhead on the porch! I made a hand picture for him of how big the snake was. Then The Colonel tells me he has to get his gun so he can shoot it. I was thinking, “hurry, hurry, hurry”. I was so afraid that snake was going to get away and then we would have to worry about running into the snake every time we went outside.
The Colonel came back with gun in hand and the snake was still lying on the porch. He dispatched it immediately and we realized it was a beautiful snake…the coloring and patterns I mean. Otherwise it was an awful snake. So, I thought the fun was over and went back in the house. About 15 minutes later I heard The Colonel calling me to come back outside. There just inches away from where the first snake had been was another snake…another Copperhead. This one, however, was a baby. He killed it with a hoe, it wasn’t big enough to shoot. Oh the things that are found at the Red Oak Ranch!
