Freestone County Commissioner’s Court will be holding a Public Hearing on Thursday, August 13, 2020, over the Tax Increase for a proposed tax rate of .409 for the 2021 fiscal year.
The hearing will be held at the Freestone County Courthouse in the County Courtroom.
During a special meeting of the Commissioner’s Court on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, all four commissioners voted unanimously to set the tax rate at .409, and is unchanged from the previous fiscal year.
Commissioner Pct. 2 Craig Oakes moved directly into his proposal with, “I make a motion to leave the proposed tax rate the same.”
The Public Hearing is being held to allow citizens to express their support or opposition to the tax rate.
The proposed tax rate is lower than the voter-approval tax rate, meaning that an election is not required.
In addition, the Commissioners voted to not have any changes in salary or allowances for elected officials.
No burn ban is in effect, although that was agenda item number one during the meeting.
