Disc golf has and will always be a community sport.
When the decision to bring disc golf to Fairfield, an intertwined decision was made to establish a intentional community to coordinate players to compete and grow the sport within our local area.
Stigmas are pervasive in this sport, but with the opportunity to build something new, efforts have been aggressively made to establish a healthy foundation and disc golf culture from the very beginning.
When the opportunity to help another disc golf club arose, the members of Fairfield Disc Golf Association responded.
Aaron Martin became an early and engaged member of the Fairfield Disc Golf Association, recently, he has been working out of Durant, OK where he met the founder of the Durant Disc Golf Club, Craig Parker.
Parker has been a leader that’s been instrumental in the growth of disc golf in Durant, OK and the Durant Youth Sports organization, he was also an advocate for a new course to be built at Durant Lake, he was also a well established pillar in the development of Durant Disc Golf Club, Durant OK .
Saturday June 26th, Parker played in the Dynamic Disc Buffalo Run flex start tournament in McAllister, OK where he said he played his dream round.
Parker was able to play that round with his son, following the tournament he drove home and during the night he had a heart attack and passed away in his sleep.
Martin became a good quick friend to Parker.
Martin reached out to Fairfield Disc Golf association via the Facebook group expressing his loss and the loss to the disc golf community.
A conversation quickly developed and a benefit mini tournament took shape, the heart spurning from a healthy disc golf community developing.
On Wednesday July 1st, Fairfield DGA had 11 players participate and raised $140 for the Durant youth sports organization in honor of Craig Parker.
