Reopening Texas safely, “We are Texans. We got this,” said Governor Abbott during the address to the citizens of the State of Texas Monday, April 27, 2020.

Beginning on Friday, May 1, 2020, Phase 1 of opening Texas begins with hopes of moving into Phase 2 by Monday, May 18, 2020.

Restaurants
, Malls, Individual Retailers, and Movie Theaters will reopen to the public, with their public occupancy limited to 25%.

Museums and Libraries are also allowed to reopen with the 25% occupancy, but they are not allowed to have any form of Hands On interactive exhibits during the First Phase.

Additionally, Churches and Places of Worship can expand their worship as long as they stay safe and socially distant.

Outdoor sports are allowed during Phase 1, as long as there is no more than four players at a time.

All licensed Healthcare can resume work, such as Dentist.

It is also noted that counties in Texas with less than five cases, such as Freestone County, can increase their occupancy, as long as they follow other guidelines set forth.

If a county does increase over five cases, they will have to revert to the 25% occupancy rate.

If there are no flare-ups, and things look well, Texas will move to Phase 2 of reopening, which includes increasing occupancy up to 50% for all businesses.

In regards to Gyms, Beauty Salons, Barber Shops and Bars, Governor Abbott hopes to open them Mid-May but there is no guarantee at this time.

Emphasis was placed strongly on protecting our most vulnerable community members, and remembering to continue with social distancing guidelines.

The “Times” will continue to follow as the plan evolves, watch for next week’s paper edition.
