A bomb threat. Something terrifying for everyone involved, but with preparation, planning and proper execution, the dangers are lessened.

Around 6:45 a.m. Thursday, January 23rd the Fairfield ISD messenger system began alerting families that a bomb threat had been made against the Fairfield High School Campus.

Law Enforcement was quickly contacted, and a plan was put into action to move forward with keeping everyone safe as the primary goal.

Any student and personnel already on campus, was immediately evacuated to the Junior High and buses were directed to NOT enter the High School Campus.

The buses were to take all High School students to the Junior High.

The messenger system explained briefly but precisely what was happened and what the plan moving forward was going to be.

Fairfield employees used vehicles to block entrances into the school to maintain the safe perimeter.

As law enforcement and a highly trained bomb-sniffing dog swept the building, they realized another hour would be necessary before bringing people back onto campus.

All agencies worked impressively well together, and more than one person said as much, according to Dr. Adams.

A person of interest was identified and an arrest warrant has been issued, but no names released at press time.

To remind everyone, Fairfield ISD follows very clear steps when a threat is received:

–Contact local law enforcements
–Work with law enforcement to prepare a plan
–Protect the students and faculty
–Use the messaging system to contact families to let them know what is happening, and how to handle
–Handle the situation as necessary
–Let everyone know when everything is complete

If you did not receive an email, or phone call about the bomb threat, contact the school and make sure you have your information saved into the system.

Nobody wants to experience these events, but it is a small comfort to know that the school district and local law enforcement work together to protect everyone and handle the situation as smoothly and swiftly as safely possible.
